Starbucks ditches AI inventory system as AI-driven layoffs spread
Starbucks has withdrawn a computer vision-based automated inventory management system from more than 11,000 stores after it miscounted stock and worsened shortages, Forbes reported. Staff returned to manual work. Forbes said companies replacing workers with AI are also removing AI that fails to replace people. It cited recent layoffs at Meta, Intuit and others, while companies also say they lack talent able to use AI tools in day-to-day work.

OpenAI co-founder Andrej Karpathy joins Anthropic to advance pre-training with Claude
OpenAI co-founder Andrej Karpathy has joined Anthropic, TechCrunch reported. Karpathy said on X that he was excited to return to R&D at a time he expects to be critical for large language models. He is working from this week on the pre-training team led by Nick Joseph. An Anthropic spokesperson said he will form a new team to accelerate pre-training research using Claude.

Nota to join SECON 2026, showcase VLM security monitoring solution
AI lightweighting and optimisation technology company Nota said on Tuesday it will participate in the World Security Expo (SECON 2026) in Ilsan from March 18 to 20 and present a demo of its vision-language model-based security monitoring solution, Nota Vision Agent (NVA). It said NVA combines vision-language models with computer vision to understand context and analyse risks early, supports natural-language detection rules, and uses on-device processing for privacy and real-time monitoring.
