Xpeng in talks to acquire Volkswagen Europe plant as exports jump 62 percent
Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng is discussing a plant acquisition with Volkswagen to secure a production base in Europe, as capacity at its contract manufacturing line in Austria tightens. Xpeng produced G6 and G9 models for Europe at Magna Steyr in Austria and completed trial production of the 2026 P7+ sedan in January. Xpeng\'s April overseas exports rose 62 percent from a year earlier. Volkswagen is pursuing cuts to excess capacity in Europe and is considering transferring some capacity to Chinese partners.

Chinese EV makers move beyond cheap cars as western rivals stay in losses
Chinese electric vehicle makers are reshaping the global auto industry by securing profitability beyond price advantages, while many western rivals remain in the red despite heavy investment. Reports say Leapmotor, Nio and Xpeng have turned profitable, alongside BYD and others. Their edge is linked to vertical integration, battery supply-chain strength and new business models such as battery swapping. Western automakers face high transition costs and softer demand growth.

Waymo unveils World Model, can it beat Tesla\'s FSD
Waymo unveiled its AI-based autonomous driving simulation technology, the Waymo World Model, using Google DeepMind\'s Genie 3 to build ultra-realistic virtual environments. Waymo said it can generate rare scenarios and create high-precision 3D environments to improve safety, while criticising Tesla\'s camera-centred approach. Tesla is moving faster on FSD, starting an AI training centre in China and shifting FSD to a subscription model. It also confirmed final specifications for the Semi electric truck.
