Minors make up big share of users of AI character chat apps, raising protection challenges

Most users of South Korean AI character chat service Zeta are teenagers or younger, while Crack also has nearly half of its users in that age group, MobileIndex data showed. Operators say they separate adult content and apply identity checks, but questions remain about keeping conversations safe in general content. A National Assembly research report warned that constant access and ongoing interaction could worsen emotional dependence and excessive immersion among children and adolescents.

Big tech steps up push into physical AI

Big tech companies are moving faster into so-called physical AI that applies AI in the real world, including robots, cars and drones, as they seek to secure an early lead in a market seen as smaller than chatbots for now but with high potential. Nvidia, AWS, SoftBank, Anthropic and Xpeng are among those expanding initiatives. South Korean companies and institutions are also stepping up projects, funding and partnerships, even as concerns persist about data shortages and reliability.

Wrtn raises 100 billion won in Series C, valued at 1 trillion won

Wrtn Technologies said on Tuesday it raised 100 billion won in a Series C funding round, with the company valued at more than 1 trillion won. The company said it is the first domestic AI service startup to be valued above 1 trillion won. Total funding is about 230 billion won. New investors included Coreline Ventures and Eugene Asset Management. Wrtn said its North America platform OOC topped 10 billion won in monthly revenue within three months.
