Kakao launches \'Tech for Impact Campus\' at 13 universities nationwide
Kakao Impact Foundation said on Sept. 3 it will start the second-semester 2026 programme of its \'Tech for Impact Campus\' at 13 universities nationwide for 355 students. The course pairs students with social innovation organisations to develop ways to solve social issues using AI and digital technology. The programme began in 2023 at KAIST and had 482 students at nine universities through the first semester.

MSIT designates 11 new leading research centres for basic research programme
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT said on Wednesday it has newly selected 11 centres as leading research centres under its 2026 basic research programme. The scheme, launched in 1990, supports mid- to large-scale joint research and strengthens university collaboration and industry-academia-research links. The 11 centres span science, engineering and basic medical science. Each will receive 1.5 billion to 2.2 billion won a year for seven years.

Physical AI hinges on trustworthy hardware, demand starts from manufacturing
Hwang Myeon-jung (황면중), a professor at the University of Seoul, said the core of physical AI, including robotics AI, is hardware stability and reliable operation. He said robotics AI capability depends on perception and manipulation, and his team focuses research on improving speed and accuracy. His lab won the RoboCup 2026 ARM Challenge, sorting dozens of items in 30 minutes with near-perfect accuracy. He said manufacturing sites are a key commercialization target.
