Disney allies with TikTok to bring fan-made short videos to Disney+
Disney is working with TikTok to bring Disney-related fan content into the Disney+ app. The companies plan to start a pilot program in the United States in the coming months and then expand to other markets. Under the partnership, TikTok fan videos themed on Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars will appear in Disney+’s short-form feed, “Vurts.” Disney also launched a creator ambassador program for TikTok creators.

Disney Plus considers introducing free streaming tier
Disney Plus is considering making some streaming content available for free. TechCrunch reported on July 10 that Disney discussed the possibility of offering a free tier during an internal town hall meeting. Adam Smith, Disney’s chief product and technology officer, mentioned the plan, but the company has not decided which films or series would be free or when it would launch. The move is seen as a response to competition from free services and shifting viewing trends.

Fox to buy Roku for $22 billion, combining news, sports and streaming
Fox will acquire Roku in a cash-and-stock deal valued at about $22 billion. The boards of both companies have already approved the transaction, TechCrunch reported on Sunday. The acquisition is expected to be completed in the first half of 2027. Fox aims to combine Fox News, its sports channels, its free ad-supported streaming service Tubi and Roku’s connected TV platform, seeking to expand its advertising precision and reduce reliance on traditional broadcasting.
