Tesla posts surprise deliveries; Tour de France on high alert as deadly heat wave hits
Tesla delivered 480,126 vehicles in the second quarter of 2026, beating market forecasts and marking its best second-quarter total. Deliveries rose 25 percent from a year earlier and 34 percent from the first quarter, ending a two-year slide in quarterly deliveries. The company is expanding robotaxi testing and adding a three-row Model Y in the United States. Hyundai Motor is stepping up electric vehicle promotions in the United States, offering discounts of up to $10,000 and 72-month zero-interest financing on models including the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 9. The move is seen as a response to higher price burdens after a federal tax credit ended and intensifying competition. In South Korea, Hyundai Capital is also offering discounts on Ioniq models and Kia EVs. Media reported low lease payments for some trims.

Ford has begun producing lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cells in the United States as it steps up efforts to target the mass-market electric vehicle segment. The company produced its first LFP cells at its BlueOval Battery Park in Michigan, with plans to use them in a mid-size electric pickup priced in the $30,000 range due in 2027. Ford licensed technology and manufacturing processes from China’s CATL and also plans to use the batteries in energy storage systems.
