Google to build data centre from 2,000 discarded Pixel phones in low-cost server test
Google has begun testing a low-cost data centre built from retired Pixel smartphones, aiming to cut costs and electronic waste by turning discarded devices into computing resources. Researchers stripped phones to mainboards and replaced Android with a Linux-based environment to run orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes. Tests showed clusters of dozens of phones could support applications used by students. The team is also pursuing a 2,000-phone facility designed to support about 100 classes.

AI to automate last mile of labor, Real World aims for human-level robot dexterity
Physical AI company Real World (RLWRLD) unveiled its in-house robotics foundation model, RLDX-1, and said it is accelerating efforts to expand in the South Korean market. At an event in Seoul, Chief Executive Ryu Jung-hee said even highly automated factories still rely on humans for 25 percent of work and that the company aims to automate such tasks with AI. The firm also outlined its data pipeline, synthetic data approach and hardware partnerships.

AMD extends Socket AM5 platform support until at least 2029
AMD will extend support for its desktop CPU Socket AM5 platform until at least 2029, lengthening the period in which users can upgrade to future Ryzen processors without changing motherboards. AMD had previously planned support through 2025, later extending it beyond 2027, and has now set a minimum of 2029. AMD also announced the Ryzen 7 7700X3D, priced at $329 and launching on July 16, and said it will re-release the Ryzen 7 5800X3D as a 10th anniversary edition for $349 on June 25.
