Naver, Kakao race to expand shopping recommenders to sellers, creators and users

Naver and Kakao are expanding who can recommend products on their shopping platforms. Naver has introduced a Smart Store feature that lets sellers create content combining images, video, products, coupons and live shopping, and it is also expanding creator-led recommendations through its Shopping Connect affiliate service. Kakao has opened a curator feature in KakaoTalk Gifts that allows any member to share product links and earn commissions under certain conditions.

Naver launches campaign for merchants and users to mark Personal Information Protection Day

Naver is running privacy management guides, education and participation programs for merchant members, users and employees to mark Personal Information Protection Day. It said it provided merchants with guidance on required steps in personal data processing, administrative penalty cases and privacy guidelines for business operations. Naver is also running a privacy idea challenge through Oct. 4 and a user participation event through Oct. 8. It also held internal quizzes, a poster contest and a special lecture on privacy compliance issues in the AI era.

Naver says KurlyNmart transaction value grows tenfold in first year

Naver said on Aug. 31 that transaction value at KurlyNmart, its online grocery service run with Kurly, rose about 10 times from the initial level in its first year. The service, launched last September, combines Naver’s shopping user base with Kurly’s product sourcing and dawn delivery. Repeat purchases were led by users in their 30s and 40s. More than 80 percent of transactions came via the Naver Plus Store app.
