Naver is running personal information management guides and education and participation programs for merchant members, users and employees to mark Personal Information Protection Day.

Naver said on Sept. 30 it informed merchant members of items that must be observed during personal data processing and examples of actual administrative penalties, and provided personal information protection guidelines that can be used in business operations.

The examples included downloading customer information files onto a personal PC, sending an email incorrectly, and failing to discard documents containing personal information. The company delivered the material through service channels used by merchants, including Smart Store, Reservations, TokTok and Naver Pay.

It is also running a program in which users can directly participate in improving personal information protection. Naver operates a PER (Privacy Enhancement Reward) system that accepts proposals for ideas to improve personal information protection and privacy in its services.

Through Oct. 4, it is running a "Privacy Idea Challenge" using PER. It is collecting service improvement ideas related to personal information and privacy, and will provide additional rewards for selected proposals on top of existing PER rewards.

On its personal information protection blog, it is providing guidance on privacy protection rules that users can apply in daily life. Through Oct. 8, it is also running a participation event in which users leave comments with a self-introduction that masks personal information.

Naver also prepared internal programs. It ran a privacy quiz and a poster contest for employees to coincide with Personal Information Protection Week, and also held a special lecture on personal information compliance issues in the AI era.
