Kosdaq slides nearly 5 percent intraday, triggering sell-sidecar
The Kosdaq index slid nearly 5 percent in intraday trading, triggering a sell-sidecar that temporarily halted the effectiveness of program sell orders. The Korea Exchange said program sell orders in the Kosdaq market were suspended for 5 minutes from 10:05 a.m. The Kosdaq150 futures fell 6.06 percent and the Kosdaq150 spot index dropped 5.48 percent at the time of activation. The Kosdaq index later fell 4.82 percent, while the KOSPI was down 0.76 percent.

South Korea\'s KOSPI jumped more than 5 percent on Aug. 20 as Samsung Electronics and SK hynix surged, triggering a so-called buy sidecar that temporarily halts program buy orders. The Korea Exchange said program buy orders in the main board market were suspended for 5 minutes from 9:57:10 a.m. The trigger came as KOSPI 200 futures rose 5.10 percent.

A program trading curb known as a sidecar was triggered on South Korea\'s main bourse after the KOSPI fell sharply in early trade. The Korea Exchange said program sell orders were halted for 5 minutes after a drop in the KOSPI 200 futures index. The futures index fell 6.02 percent. The KOSPI was down 5.78 percent at 9:09 a.m. and later widened losses to the 6 percent range. The Kosdaq fell 2.46 percent.
