AI data centres face shortages now but risk overinvestment shock longer term
AI data centre supply remains short for now, but excessive capacity could deliver a major shock to stock markets over the longer term, the Financial Times reported. Shares of AI cloud startups such as CoreWeave and Nebius fell this week. Hyperscalers including Alphabet, Amazon, Meta, Microsoft and Oracle are expected to spend about $800 billion on capital investment this year, nearly double from a year earlier. Longer-term profitability assumptions appear far higher than some forecasts for AI revenue.
