R&D participation ban for research misconduct up to 20 years; penalty surcharge up to 30 times
South Korea will extend the maximum ban on participation in state-funded research and development for serious research misconduct to 20 years from 10 years. The cap on penalty surcharges for fraudulent use of government-funded R&D money will rise to 30 times the amount paid from five times. The Ministry of Science and ICT said the Cabinet on Sept. 8 approved promulgation of amendments to the National Research and Development Innovation Act passed by parliament on Aug. 20.

First major R&D screening after pre-feasibility review abolition picks five projects including AI and aircraft engines
South Korea has selected five projects for the first review under a new pre-screening system for large research and development initiatives introduced after it abolished pre-feasibility reviews. The Ministry of Science and ICT said a committee chaired by Vice Minister for Science and Technology Innovation Park In-gyu (박인규) chose the projects on Thursday. The selected projects will be reviewed by an expert panel for about eight months, including on-site intensive checks.
