KOSPI set to try again for 7,000: what could move the market
South Korean stocks are expected to try again to settle above the 7,000 mark on the KOSPI this week. Semiconductor earnings and expanded shareholder returns are seen supporting the downside, while August export data and U.S. employment figures are expected to determine whether the rebound continues. Markets are also watching U.S. rate expectations after Kevin Warsh’s Jackson Hole remarks and the rise in U.S. two-year yields.

KOSPI slides back from 7,000 threshold as foreigners sell 1.7 trillion won
South Korea\'s KOSPI fell more than 1 percent to below 6,800 on Friday, pressured by foreign net selling of about 1.76 trillion won and weakness in large-cap semiconductor shares. The benchmark ended a three-session rise after nearing 7,000 a day earlier. Institutions also sold while retail investors bought. The Kosdaq closed slightly higher. The won strengthened against the dollar in Seoul trading.

Smartphone, PC costs to rise 15 to 40 percent in vicious cycle from commodity DRAM shortage
Memory makers are allocating more wafer capacity to high-bandwidth memory and DDR5, reducing output of commodity DRAM and lifting prices, an industry source said. The shift is expected to raise the cost of making a smartphone or PC by at least 15 to 40 percent this year. As higher costs are hard to pass on amid weak demand and falling shipments, pressure is likely to move to parts and materials suppliers.
