Valve Steam Machine sells out in Japan; preorder rights resold in U.S. and cheap copies appear in China

Valve\'s gaming PC, the Steam Machine, sells out shortly after its release in Japan, while resale of purchase reservation rights at a premium has emerged in the United States. At the same time, low-priced products with a similar design have appeared in China. With official supply failing to keep pace with demand, reservation-right trading and sales of unofficial alternatives are spreading. PC memory price rises may ease as Asus sees smaller hikes, SK Hynix DDR5 output seen rising

A surge in PC memory prices in the first half may lose momentum in the second half, a forecast said. Asus expects any additional price increases to be limited to the single digits after earlier steep rises, citing stabilising memory and storage costs and weaker tolerance for further big hikes. Markets are also watching whether SK Hynix may slow HBM output growth and raise production of commodity DRAM, potentially easing shortages and price pressure for consumer DDR5 memory.

AMD extends Socket AM5 platform support until at least 2029

AMD will extend support for its desktop CPU Socket AM5 platform until at least 2029, lengthening the period in which users can upgrade to future Ryzen processors without changing motherboards. AMD had previously planned support through 2025, later extending it beyond 2027, and has now set a minimum of 2029. AMD also announced the Ryzen 7 7700X3D, priced at $329 and launching on July 16, and said it will re-release the Ryzen 7 5800X3D as a 10th anniversary edition for $349 on June 25.
