South Korea\'s science ministry reopens search for K-Moonshot AI Scientist project director

South Korea is reopening its search for the project director for the AI Scientist mission under the K-Moonshot project, the Science Ministry and the National Research Council of Science and Technology said on Thursday. The AI Scientist mission aims to develop AI that can autonomously carry out the full research cycle by 2035. The post became vacant after the previously appointed director resigned in June. Applications are open until Aug. 24.

Taiwan sets record 2027 technology budget to boost sovereign AI and computing infrastructure

Taiwan\'s government has set a record technology budget for 2027, stepping up investment to strengthen AI and semiconductor competitiveness. The plan makes building “sovereign AI” computing infrastructure a core task and aims to expand national-level investment to respond to global AI competition and geopolitical risks. The budget includes funding for the Smart Nation 2.0 programme, next-generation strategic technologies, semiconductor projects, net-zero technologies, regional industrial development, and space and communications initiatives.

KB Kookmin Bank sets up response framework to quantum computing security threats

KB Kookmin Bank is studying ways to apply post-quantum cryptography in the financial sector to prepare for security threats from advances in quantum computers. The bank also plans to set up a response framework against harvest-now-decrypt-later attacks, in which encrypted data are collected now and decrypted later using quantum computing. It signed an agreement with post-quantum cryptography specialist K-Pair to conduct joint research, seminars and pilot projects.
