Trump says Chinese cars could be sold if made in U.S., clashing with 100 percent tariff and sales curbs

U.S. President Donald Trump said he could accept Chinese automakers entering the United States if they build plants and make vehicles locally. The stance sits uneasily with existing U.S. restrictions, including a 100 percent tariff on China-made cars and rules limiting U.S. sales of vehicles using China-developed software or hardware, set to apply from 2027 and 2030. Politicians and officials have also raised concerns about China-linked auto and battery supply chains.

EV batteries keep over 90 percent capacity after 150,000 km; seven models stand out

Electric vehicle batteries still keep the low-90 percent range of their initial capacity after about 150,000 km of driving, an analysis showed. EV diagnostics firm Aviloo compared retention rates for 20 major EV models using more than 500,000 battery health checks conducted from 2022 to 2026 across North and South America, Europe, Asia and Australia. The results indicate degradation is generally gradual, though differences by model were large.

Geely validates 500 Wh/kg solid-state battery in road tests, plans pilot use in 2027

China\'s Geely Auto is accelerating development of next-generation solid-state batteries targeting energy density of up to 500 Wh/kg. It plans to conduct validation in real vehicles from 2026 and begin pilot application from 2027 for major brand models within Geely Holding. Geely aims for more than 1,000 km per charge and a battery life of up to 1 million km, but has not disclosed mass production timing or cost competitiveness.
