SpaceX to attempt first orbital insertion on Sept. 22, deploy 26 Starlink satellites
SpaceX plans to attempt its first insertion of Starship’s upper stage into Earth orbit in its 14th test flight on Sept. 22 and deploy 26 third-generation Starlink satellites. The company plans a 75-minute launch window starting at 7:15 a.m. Central time, subject to regulatory approval. The upper stage is set to enter about a 275-km orbit, circle Earth six times over about 10 hours and end the mission.

U.S. makes first official acknowledgement of in-orbit space weapons deployment
The United States has officially confirmed for the first time that it is deploying and operating weapons in space orbit. Air Force Secretary Troy Meink said the United States has placed “space-control weapons” in orbit to defend space assets and joint forces against hostile actors, but did not disclose the type, operations or timing. He cited concern about Chinese and Russian weapons development. The disclosure could fuel more open competition in space weapons.

Space could be first battleground in Taiwan crisis as U.S.-China anti-satellite race intensifies
U.S. security officials are increasingly warning that if the United States and China clash militarily over Taiwan, combat could begin in space rather than on the ground. China is rapidly expanding its satellite forces and developing anti-satellite weapons, raising concerns that the U.S. military’s heavy reliance on space could become a vulnerability. U.S. Space Force doctrine focuses on maintaining “space superiority,” while budget plans and allied cooperation aim to counter Chinese capabilities.
