OpenAI considers mega data centre in Ohio backed by Nvidia
OpenAI is seeking to lease a 10-gigawatt AI data centre in the U.S. state of Ohio, a move that could rank among the largest single-site AI computing infrastructure investments if completed. Discussions are based on funding support from Nvidia. The proposed location is the former Portsmouth gas diffusion plant site in Pike County. OpenAI’s Stargate project has secured about 7 gigawatts across seven sites as of September 2025.

U.S. debates regulation as data center boom pressures power bills
If all data centres permitted in the United States through 2025 begin operating, annual electricity use is estimated to rise to 358.8 terawatt hours from 224.3 TWh, up 50 percent from last year’s estimate. The rise is led by hyperscale facilities needed for artificial intelligence. Analysts warn grid and generation investment could be passed on through higher power bills, while some states and counties weigh rules and debate tax incentives.

LG Energy Solution signs $1.6 billion ESS supply deal with DTE Energy
LG Energy Solution said on May 28 it signed a $1.6 billion energy storage system supply contract with U.S. utility DTE Energy. Total supply volume is 6 GWh and deliveries will run for about two years. DTE Energy, Michigan’s largest power utility, plans to use the ESS for eight grid projects, including an Oracle AI data center in Salem Township. LG Energy Solution said production will center on its Holland, Michigan plant.
