Science ministry says proton accelerator reaches 40,000 hours of cumulative operation
A 100-megaelectronvolt-class linear proton accelerator operated by the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute in Gyeongju has reached 40,000 cumulative operating hours over 13 years since its first run in 2013 without a single safety accident, the Ministry of Science and ICT said. The facility supports radiation-environment testing for semiconductors and other applications. Operations expanded to a 24-hour service system from September 2024, and it supported 353 people and 210 experiments last year.

South Korea AI action plan: 88 percent of 326 tasks on track as infrastructure and talent take shape
South Korea\'s National AI Strategy Committee said on May 14 it completed a first-quarter review of 326 tasks under the country\'s AI action plan. It found 288 tasks, or 88.3 percent, were proceeding as planned, while 38 needed supplementation. Steps cited included passage of a special law to promote the AI data centre industry, allocation of 13,000 advanced GPUs and new tenders for large-scale GPU projects.

Pompidou Center Hanwha starts ticket sales ahead of June opening
Pompidou Center Hanwha has launched its official website and begun selling tickets ahead of its opening on June 4 at the 63 Building in Seoul\'s Yeouido. Its opening exhibition, \"Cubists: Innovators of Vision,\" will run from June 4 to Oct. 4. Timed advance reservations are available from Thursday, with on-site purchases offered after opening. The venue also started recruiting membership subscribers with annual fees of 100,000 to 300,000 won.
