Gasoline, diesel new cars all but disappear as Norway EV share hits 98.7 percent

Battery-electric vehicles took a record 98.7 percent share of Norway’s new passenger-car registrations in August, as total registrations slipped 3.4 percent from a year earlier to 13,451. Volkswagen led by brand, followed by Toyota, with BMW, Volvo and China’s Xpeng next. Tesla fell to seventh on sharp annual declines, though it still leads year to date. OFV said further emissions cuts hinge on replacing older gasoline and diesel cars.

LG Energy Solution secures long-term lithium carbonate supply in U.S.

LG Energy Solution said on Sept. 1 it signed a long-term lithium carbonate supply agreement with U.S. developer Smackover Lithium, a joint venture set up by Standard Lithium and Norway’s state-owned energy company Equinor. Starting in 2029, the company will receive a total of 80,000 tons over 10 years. LG Energy Solution said the deal helps it respond to rising demand, meet IRA requirements and strengthen supply chain and ESG competitiveness in North America.

Rising used EV supply could undermine gasoline and diesel car values

A forecast says that as electric vehicle adoption expands and supplies of used EVs build up, used prices for gasoline and diesel cars could fall sharply, potentially becoming stranded assets. Norway and China were cited as markets showing the shift earlier.
