Vice minister Gu Hyeok-chae vows policy innovation to make science culture accessible to all
Gu Hyeok-chae (구혁채), first vice minister of South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT, pledged to innovate science culture policy to improve public access. The ministry held the 2026 Korea Science Festival with the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity and the National Research Foundation of Korea at KINTEX in Ilsan, integrated with the Korea Science and Technology Exhibition. Events included mentoring for students and an AI co-scientist challenge awarding 16 teams.

KAIST develops AI system to diagnose time reasoning errors using database
KAIST said on Monday a research team led by professor Eui-jong Hwang developed a system that automatically evaluates and diagnoses large language models\' time reasoning, in joint research with Microsoft Research. The team introduced temporal database design theory to AI evaluation, enabling a database to automatically generate 13 types of complex time-based questions and automate the process from answer derivation to verification. It also introduced a metric to validate dates and periods, improving detection of temporal hallucinations by 21.7 percent on average.

Sim Woo-young named April Korea Science and Technology Award winner
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Research Foundation of Korea selected Yonsei University professor Sim Woo-young as the April winner of the Korea Science and Technology Award. The monthly prize recognizes researchers for original achievements over the past 3 years and includes a deputy prime minister\'s award and 10,000,000 won. Sim was cited for developing a new III-V semiconductor material structure enabling ion movement and combined electrical and memory functions.
