South Korea to step up drive to recruit Korean scientists in Europe with event in France
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT is seeking to recruit Korean scientists and engineers working in Europe. The ministry said it will hold a talent recruitment event in Toulouse, France, on July 21 in connection with the 2026 Korea-Europe Conference on Science and Technology. Government ministries, public agencies, universities, research institutes and companies will take part, offering consultations on hiring plans and researcher support. The ministry will also pilot an online platform from July 21.

KIST Europe Research Institute marks 30th anniversary, unveils \'BRIDGE to YOU\' vision
The Korea Institute of Science and Technology\'s Europe Research Institute marked its 30th anniversary and unveiled a new vision to become a hub for Korea-Europe global research cooperation. It held a ceremony in Saarbruecken, Germany, attended by officials from KIST, the South Korean government and local German institutions. KIST President Oh Sang-rok received Saarland\'s Order of Merit. The institute announced the slogan \'BRIDGE to YOU\' and outlined plans to strengthen joint research, support business expansion and promote AI-based research innovation.

PIPC boosts sanction effectiveness, gains momentum in shift to prevention-focused system
South Korea\'s Personal Information Protection Commission said it shared key first-half results and plans, highlighting stronger economic penalties tied to major personal data leaks. It said total fines rose to 608.4 billion won in the first half of 2026 from 167.8 billion won in 2025 and 61.2 billion won in 2024, naming firms and institutions that received major sanctions. The commission also outlined new punitive fine rules and expanded preventive inspections and mydata download rights.
