Global ESG focus shifts to governance, South Korean companies face urgent response
The focus of global ESG is shifting rapidly toward corporate governance, as shareholder proposals in the United States increasingly target board structure and capital policy. In South Korea, a series of Commercial Act revisions and mandatory treasury share cancellations are strengthening governance rules and raising pressure on major groups. Some companies are moving early to cancel shares, while others are adding exception clauses or reshaping board structures, prompting warnings of longer-term governance risk premiums.

Korea Post to pilot safe national pension delivery service in Gangwon and Jeonbuk
Korea Post will pilot a service in which post office delivery workers bring national pension payments in cash to recipients in 19 cities and counties in Gangwon and North Jeolla provinces. The Ministry of Science and ICT’s Postal Service signed an agreement with the National Pension Service to implement the “safe delivery” programme to improve financial access for beneficiaries. The six-month pilot runs from July through December.

Bank of Korea Governor Lee says monetary policy alone has limits, structural reforms needed
Bank of Korea Governor Lee Chang-yong (이창용) said it is becoming difficult to achieve economic stability and growth through monetary and fiscal policy alone and stressed the need for structural reforms as he ended his four-year term on April 20. He cited rate hikes to 3.5 percent, including two big steps, as a key response after inflation surged. He also pointed to multiple domestic and external crises and listed achievements including lowering inflation to the 2 percent range.
