National AI Strategy Committee checks Jeonbuk physical AI innovation hub
South Korea\'s National Artificial Intelligence Strategy Committee said its standing vice chair, Lim Moon-young (임문영), visited Jeonju and Saemangeum in North Jeolla province on April 15 to review the status of physical AI demonstrations and ways to link them with private investment. He toured a manufacturing technology test lab at Jeonbuk National University and discussed results and next steps for a physical AI proof-of-concept project. He also heard Hyundai Motor Group’s Saemangeum investment plan.

President Lee reviews expanding alternative service for science and technology talent, revamping military system
President Lee Jae-myung said on Feb. 5 he is reviewing expanding alternative military service for male science and technology talent and overhauling the military system. Speaking at a dialogue event with future scientists, he said the military should shift from an infantry- and headcount-based model to one centered on equipment, weapons and trained experts. He also mentioned research units within the military and said the government is preparing policies to address overseas talent outflows.

SKT provides personal data protection training for Naju middle and high school students
SK Telecom said on Jan. 18 it ran a personal data-focused education programme and a company tour for middle and high school students in Naju on Jan. 15, together with the Korea Internet & Security Agency and the Naju Office of Education. The programme introduced cybercrime types such as voice phishing and smishing, AI-based cyber threat response cases and key principles for protecting personal data.
