Korea Communications Agency (KCA) said on Sept. 10 it made a designated donation of 10 million won in hometown love donations to Geoje and Tongyeong in South Gyeongsang province, which were declared special disaster zones after heavy rain.

The donation follows KCA support announced on Aug. 27 for free inspections of vessel maritime communications equipment in special disaster zones. It also provided resources to help affected residents resume their daily lives, after deploying staff and equipment to disaster sites to help restore maritime safety communications networks for fishermen hit by the damage.

Because corporate-name donations are restricted under the hometown love donation system, the funds were raised through employees participating individually in designated flood recovery donation projects in Geoje and Tongyeong. The fundraising took the form of an in-house campaign joined by staff at the agency's headquarters in Naju, South Jeolla province, and at regional offices nationwide.

KCA President Sang-hoon Lee (이상훈) said, "With employees voluntarily coming together, we will stay with Geoje and Tongyeong through the end of their recovery process so that, along with technical support, our sentiments can be delivered as well."
