South Korea stock market outlook for second half focuses on overlooked stocks amid semiconductor concentration
South Korea\'s stock market is expected to remain led by semiconductor bellwethers Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix in the second half, with investors watching whether flows broaden to non-chip sectors and the Kosdaq. Brokerages raised KOSPI target ranges on expectations of improved chip earnings and an ongoing AI investment cycle. Still, analysts cite interest rates, the dollar and concentration risks as key variables, while regulatory changes could weigh on Kosdaq sentiment in the short term.

Capital markets also show economies of scale as big brokerages rush to boost capital
Competition among securities firms to bolster capital is spreading quickly, led by large brokerages, as more businesses link bigger capital bases to revenue growth. KB Securities decided on a 1 trillion won rights offering after earlier support from KB Financial Group. Similar moves include Korea Investment & Securities, Woori Investment & Securities and NH Investment & Securities, while Hanyang Securities also joined. The combined amount totals about 4.65 trillion won this year.

South Korea’s KOSPI fell more than 5 percent to close near the 8,410 level on Thursday, after an intraday slide of more than 8 percent triggered a first-stage circuit breaker. The benchmark pared some losses in the afternoon as bargain hunting emerged. Individuals were net buyers, while foreigners and institutions sold. Most heavyweight shares declined, including Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix. The won strengthened against the dollar.
