Tesla begins production of next-generation Megapack 3, targets 50 GWh-a-year ESS output

Tesla has begun full-scale production of its next-generation grid energy storage system, Megapack 3, at a newly built Megafactory in Brookshire, Texas. The plant is designed for 50 GWh of annual output and is expected to also produce the Megablock platform. Megapack 3 raises storage capacity to about 5 MWh per unit, improves energy density and updates thermal management. Tesla cited rising demand but said supply-chain risks remain.

SpaceX spent $329 million this year on Tesla\'s large energy storage system Megapack, with $295 million invested in the second quarter, TechCrunch reported. The purchases underscore links among companies led by Elon Musk, who runs SpaceX and co-leads Tesla, while xAI bought X in 2025 and was absorbed by SpaceX early this year. The market expects the batteries to be used at xAI data centres, where power demand can surge.

Tesla buys up others\' electricity. Why when it makes solar too?

Tesla has agreed to buy 90 percent of the power from a large solar and energy storage project in Arizona under a long-term deal. It also signed a separate power purchase agreement the same day to take all output from a 140 MW solar plant under development in northeast Texas. The deals total more than 640 MW of solar capacity and 360 MW of battery resources, reflecting rising power demand tied to factories and AI computing infrastructure.
