KOSPI, Kosdaq plunge on \'Black Thursday\', triggering circuit breakers
South Korean stocks plunged again on Thursday, with the KOSPI falling as much as 9 percent intraday and the Kosdaq dropping more than 7 percent. Sell-side sidecars were activated in both markets, followed by level-one circuit breakers that halted trading for 20 minutes. Foreign investors were net sellers of 3.62 trillion won in the main board. Most heavyweight stocks fell sharply, while Samsung Biologics rose.

KOSPI slump sends fear gauge up 23 percent, market cap falls below 5,000 trillion won
The KOSPI slid below 6,000 intraday, pushing the KOSPI 200 volatility index, VKOSPI, up more than 23 percent. The benchmark opened down 198.16 points at 6,186.08 and extended losses, falling back into the 5,000 range for the first time since regaining 6,000 on July 31. A sell-side sidecar was triggered at 9:47:58 a.m. KOSPI market capitalisation fell to 4,929 trillion won.

Bank of England says no need to rush digital pound, focus shifts to stablecoins
The Bank of England reaffirmed it is in no rush to issue a digital pound, saying there is no immediate need for a central bank digital currency. Deputy Governor Sarah Breeden said commercial stablecoins and tokenised bank deposits could fill payment gaps. The bank is putting weight on fostering a pound-denominated stablecoin market to prevent shifts to dollar-linked coins. The bank and UK Treasury aim to complete the design phase by end-2026.
