Korean game makers diversify growth beyond mobile MMORPGs to PC, console and overseas
South Korean game makers are expanding growth beyond mobile MMORPGs into overseas markets, PC and console, and casual genres. Pearl Abyss and Krafton posted sharp gains as global PC and console titles lifted sales. Netmarble, NC and Nexon added overseas, platform and genre revenues while maintaining core franchises. Kakao Games and Devsisters pursued diversification but reported quarterly losses, highlighting that rising sales do not automatically translate into higher profit.

Mgame Q2 operating profit falls 9.4 percent to 2.44 billion won
Mgame reported second-quarter consolidated revenue of 21.26 billion won and operating profit of 2.44 billion won, it said in a filing on Thursday. Revenue rose 6.4 percent from a year earlier, while operating profit fell 9.4 percent and net profit dropped 56.7 percent to 717 million won. First-half revenue totalled 45.5 billion won. The company cited tax and financial asset valuation factors for the net profit decline.

Playwith Korea said on Thursday it has confirmed the official service name for its new MMORPG, \'Seal M2\', and unveiled its brand identity as it prepares to launch the title in the fourth quarter this year. The company said the game is an official sequel using the intellectual property of \'Seal Online\'. It plans to begin preparations for a domestic launch in the fourth quarter, combining elements from offline and mobile platforms.
