LG Energy Solution first global battery maker to top 100,000 patent applications
LG Energy Solution has become the first battery company to surpass 100,000 patent applications globally, the company said on Saturday. As of last month, it had about 59,000 registered patents and more than 100,000 patent applications. It said it invested 1.33 trillion won in R&D last year after first exceeding 1 trillion won in annual R&D spending in 2023, and cited patents spanning materials, electrode design, cells, packs, BMS and manufacturing.

LG Energy Solution rewards researchers for LMR and 46-series patent work
LG Energy Solution on May 18 awarded 12 researchers for securing key patents in next-generation battery technologies, including LMR batteries. It held its 2026 Inventor King and Filing King awards ceremony at its Park One headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul. The annual event selects winners through evaluations by internal and external experts based on patentability, technical merit and business viability. The company said it holds a global patent portfolio of about 58,000 registered patents and about 99,000 filings as of late April.

K-battery industry targets mass production of all-solid-state batteries key to humanoids
South Korea\'s battery industry is ramping up a full-scale push from cell manufacturing to materials development with the goal of mass-producing all-solid-state batteries in 2027. The batteries are seen as a game-changer for humanoid robots, drones and other next-generation sectors, offering about 1,000 Wh/L energy density and higher safety than lithium-ion cells. Companies plan to showcase development progress and materials portfolios at InterBattery 2026.
