LG Chem\'s Kim Se-hyun, Emtech\'s Choi Yang-il win July Korea Engineer Award
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Industrial Technology Association said on July 13 that Kim Se-hyun of LG Chem and Choi Yang-il of Emtech were selected as July winners of the Korea Engineer Award. The award recognizes engineers who contribute at technology sites and includes a deputy prime minister\'s award and 5 million won in prize money. Kim developed mass-production technology for carbon nanotubes for secondary batteries. Choi was recognized for localising photoresist filling equipment.

South Korea launches CCU megaproject with LG Chem, POSCO Holdings
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT said on Tuesday it held a launch briefing for a \"CCU Megaproject\" to conduct large-scale demonstrations of carbon capture and utilisation technology with private companies including LG Chem and POSCO Holdings. The project will demonstrate producing e-SAF from emissions from thermal power plants and converting steel industry emissions into syngas and cleaner marine fuels. The ministry said 238 billion won in state funds will be invested from 2026 to 2030.

LG Chem declares shift to AI materials company, targets double-digit operating margin by 2030
LG Chem has formalised a shift toward becoming an AI-based, high value-added materials company as profitability in its traditional chemical business slows. CEO Kim Dong-choon said the company will foster semiconductor, mobility and robot materials, and new cancer drugs, aiming for a double-digit operating margin by 2030. LG Chem plans to invest a total of 15 trillion won in R&D through 2035 and pursue external growth including M&A within available funds.
