Kakao launches \'2026 platform daily life innovation research\' call, offers 20 million won per project

Kakao is launching an academic research support programme to examine how its platforms affect the ecosystems and economic growth of business partners. The company opened the \'2026 Digital Platform Daily Life Innovation Research Support\' call on July 1. It will provide 20 million won in research funding for each selected project. Applications run from Aug. 1 to Aug. 31 via email, with results to be presented in the first half of 2027.

Kakao union holds \'Logout Day\'; no outages at KakaoTalk or KakaoPay

Kakao\'s labour union held a \'Logout Day\' on June 29, citing difficulties in talks over the performance bonus compensation system. Major services such as KakaoTalk and KakaoPay saw no outages. The union said about 2,100 people had applied to participate as of June 28, while the company estimated about 800 participants at headquarters. It was the second industrial action following a four-hour strike on June 10.

Mid-rate livelihood stability loan launched for mid-to-low credit borrowers, up to 10 million won

South Korea has launched a mid-rate livelihood stability loan for mid-to-low credit borrowers in the bottom 50 percent of credit scores. The unsecured loan allows up to 10 million won per borrower across all financial institutions. Initial providers include six savings banks. Interest rates range from 5.9 percent to 15.27 percent, depending on borrowers’ credit profiles and lenders’ systems. Borrowers must agree not to buy a home for 1 year or until full repayment.
