Coocon is linking KakaoPay with Seoul Pay to support QR payments using KakaoPay Money at Seoul Pay merchants. It has expanded the scope of its integration with the Seoul Pay payment network from global simple payment services to domestic payment services.

Coocon said on Sept. 15 it completed the QR payment linkage between KakaoPay and Seoul Pay and started the service.

With the integration, KakaoPay users can use QR payments with KakaoPay Money at about 270,000 Seoul Pay merchants.

Seoul Pay merchants can also add KakaoPay as a payment method while keeping their existing QR infrastructure. No separate system buildout is needed.

Coocon said KakaoPay is the first case of a domestic payment company directly linking with Seoul Pay merchants.

The integration is a follow-up measure to Seoul's project last year to open the Seoul standard QR to domestic payment companies.

Coocon, the operator of Seoul Pay payment and settlement, runs infrastructure that links Seoul Pay with domestic and overseas simple payment services. It previously connected UnionPay, WeChat Pay and Alipay+ to Seoul Pay, and expanded support to domestic payment services with the KakaoPay integration.

Coocon CEO Jong-hyun Kim (김종현) said, "This integration is meaningful in that Coocon's QR payment infrastructure has expanded to domestic payment services."
