AI social policy forum launches to identify issues from AI spread
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT launched an Artificial Intelligence Social Policy Forum in Seoul on April 27 with KISDI and NIA. The ministry said it planned the forum to respond to changes AI is bringing across society in the 10th anniversary year of the AlphaGo-Lee Sedol match. The forum, chaired by Professor Lee Sang-wook (이상욱), includes 42 experts and will gather opinions to propose policy measures.

MSIT, KISDI publish casebook on telecom service system improvements
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Information Society Development Institute published a casebook summarising eight years of telecom service system improvements, released at the first 2026 advisory committee meeting held on April 22. The advisory panel reviews consumer inconvenience and dispute cases and seeks improvement measures. The casebook covers 56 cases from 2018 to 2025, including limits on short-term multi-line sign-ups, fee waiver of cancellation penalties in disaster areas, and improvements to dark patterns in add-on service subscriptions.

Microsoft stressed an open AI ecosystem at a National Assembly event and said South Korea should focus on corporate AI transformation based on its semiconductor competitiveness rather than building a standalone large language model. A Microsoft executive said most countries have failed to develop sovereign LLMs despite heavy investment. Participants called for policy changes on interoperability, data use and certification. South Korean ministries said they share the direction but need public consensus and prioritisation.
