Red Desert, Aion 2 lift Korean game makers\' first-quarter outlook
Major South Korean game companies are flagging unusual first-quarter earnings improvements, a period typically considered an off-season. Pearl Abyss and NCSOFT are expected to post sharply stronger results from early momentum in new titles Red Desert and Aion 2, respectively. Krafton and Netmarble are seen benefiting from steady performance of existing intellectual property, while Nexon projects double-digit top-line growth based on company guidance.

Game companies move into hybrid casual segment
Hybrid casual games are emerging as a new growth engine in the mobile market as hyper casual titles face saturation and weaker profitability. The format keeps simple controls but adds collection, RPG and storyline elements, while combining in-app ads and in-app purchases. AppMagic data show in-app purchase revenue rose sharply over a year. In South Korea, Supercent posted hit titles and won an export award, while NCSoft and KRAFTON unit Neptune expand in the segment.

NCSoft targets 5 trillion won revenue by 2030 with predictable growth model
NCSoft plans to move away from an MMORPG-heavy business model and build a predictable growth model, it said. The company aims to generate cash from existing IP such as Lineage while diversifying into shooting, subculture and action RPG games and mobile casual titles. It outlined three growth pillars: upgrading legacy IP, expanding new IP through in-house development and publishing, and scaling mobile casual games using data-driven testing and live operations.
