Older voters in U.S. study show lower long-term mortality risk

A U.S. long-term tracking study found older adults who voted had a lower long-term risk of death than those who did not. Researchers analysing Wisconsin Longitudinal Study data said the pattern was clearest in the 2008 presidential election, with lower mortality risk at 5, 10 and 15 years after voting. The association held after adjusting for pre-election health and socioeconomic factors and was similar for in-person and mail voting.
