MSIT selects lead universities to drive innovation in STEM education

South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity selected lead institutions for two university education innovation programmes to strengthen science and engineering students\' practical problem-solving and basic maths and science skills. Busan National University and Yonsei University will run an industry-linked engineering training project, supported by the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology. POSTECH and Chonnam National University were chosen to reform basic curricula and lab training with up to 13.5 billion won in support.

KB Financial opens Jeonbuk KB Financial Town to activate asset management hub

KB Financial Group has opened an asset management-focused financial hub in Jeonbuk Innovation City. The group plans to strengthen asset management work linked to the National Pension Service and to provide comprehensive financial services and startup support for local residents and companies. Major affiliates including KB Kookmin Bank, KB Securities, KB Insurance and KB Asset Management will move in. About 350 group employees are expected to be based there.

South Korea\'s semiconductor materials, parts and equipment sector is drawing attention after the government, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix unveiled an 800 trillion won investment plan for a second semiconductor cluster in the southwest. The government is pushing three mega projects centered on semiconductors, physical AI and AI data centers. It expects early benefits for infrastructure and process equipment orders and aims to link production in the southwest with supplier bases in the southeast and Daegyeong regions.
