South Korea launches push to localise \'world model\' core physical AI tech
South Korea is launching a project to develop domestic core technologies for physical artificial intelligence, including high-performance world models and homegrown simulators. The Ministry of Science and ICT and IITP held a kickoff briefing in Seoul on June 9. The programme will link world models, robot foundation models and simulator technology into a single demonstration system. The ministry will invest 34 billion won over two years and targets a 20 percentage-point improvement in robots’ final task success rates.

ETRI launches development of core 6G AI-RAN technologies
Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) is moving ahead with research and development to secure core technologies for AI-RAN, an AI-based radio access network technology. The Ministry of Science and ICT and the Institute of Information and Communications Technology Planning and Evaluation began the AI-RAN Global Leading Project in April 2026 and designated ETRI as a national specialized research institute. The project runs to December 2030 with 47 billion won in R&D funding.

Korean AI chips speed up mass production, commercialisation as MSIT holds growth forum
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT held the K-AI Semiconductor Growth Forum in Seoul on June 4 to share results from domestic AI chip development and discuss growth strategies. About 300 people attended, including government, parliament and industry representatives. The forum presented pilot project cases and export-linked examples, and disclosed progress on the K-Perf performance benchmark. The ministry also outlined plans to expand standards, enhance testing and open a technical support centre in the first half.
