South Korea discusses emissions-cut goals at U.N. climate meeting

South Korea attended the 64th session of the subsidiary bodies to the U.N. climate convention (SB64) to discuss responses to the climate crisis, including national emissions-cut targets. Government ministries and agencies joined the meeting in Bonn, Germany. Participants discussed clean energy transition and electrification, and laid groundwork for talks ahead of COP31 in November in Antalya, Turkey. The delegation also highlighted NDC reporting and transparency support for developing countries.

SK says it created 32.2 trillion won in social value last year

SK said it has measured social value in monetary terms for eight consecutive years, creating a cumulative 155 trillion won. It said last year’s social value reached 32.2 trillion won, nearly doubling from 2018 when it began measuring. The company measures three areas: economic indirect contributions, environmental performance and social performance. It said environmental performance recorded a loss, while social performance rose for a third straight year.
