AI search risks uniform answers, vulnerability to manipulation, report says

Warnings are growing that AI search tools could produce more uniform answers and become easier to manipulate as they increasingly draw on AI-generated content. Axios reported that AI search visibility consultancy Graphite warned of an “AI search collapse” when tools surface pages derived from earlier AI answers, borrowing the “model collapse” concept. Graphite said simulations using OpenAI, Gemini and Anthropic APIs showed rising convergence in recommendations. Wharton research also found groups using ChatGPT tend to converge on similar ideas.
