OpenAI revamps operating principles for first time in 6 years, shifts focus to broader AI and infrastructure

OpenAI has overhauled its core operating principles for the first time since 2018, shifting its focus away from placing artificial general intelligence (AGI) at the center. Business Insider reported that CEO Sam Altman unveiled five principles for a frontier-model research lab. The new document mentions AGI far less, stresses society’s need to respond to AI capabilities at each stage, and drops language about halting competition. It also calls for broader, more democratic AI decision-making and large-scale global infrastructure to lower costs.
