FCC grants Intel exemption on foreign-made robots for U.S. chip plants

The U.S. Federal Communications Commission granted Intel an exemption for foreign-made automated guided vehicles used at its U.S. semiconductor plants, allowing the company to partly avoid import restrictions in force since July. Intel said there were no proven U.S.-made substitutes that meet its needs and warned a disruption could quickly hit U.S. chip production. The waiver follows the FCC’s addition of advanced foreign-made robots to its covered list on national security grounds.

U.S. FCC blocks two devices with Huawei affiliate chips, tightens curbs on component workarounds

The U.S. Federal Communications Commission has issued its first blocking order against devices containing chips made by companies deemed national security threats. It barred distribution of two devices, citing the presence of “foreign surveillance chips.” The FCC did not name the devices but identified a HiSilicon chip used in security cameras and dashcams, saying the maker is a Huawei subsidiary. The move targets workarounds using components inside third-party products.

U.S. orders DeepSeek removed from federal IT systems as China AI curbs expand

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security ordered federal civilian agencies to remove the Chinese AI model DeepSeek and related third-party services from their IT systems, and banned new procurement of such products. DHS cited multiple threat pathways and warned sensitive data could be transferred to China. It also raised concerns about malware or other security vulnerabilities. The memo also told agencies to review traffic flows to and from government websites.
