Four essential conditions for launching space data centers
SpaceX has proposed putting up to 1 million data centers into low Earth orbit, but cooling, radiation, space debris and the costs of launch and orbital assembly must be overcome before it can be realised, MIT Technology Review reported. Space-based data centres would need large radiators to shed heat, while radiation can cause bit flips and permanent damage. Low Earth orbit congestion and re-entry debris are also concerns, and the economics remain uncertain.

Why money and technology are flowing into low Earth orbit satellite communications - Space IQ report
The low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite industry is growing rapidly, intensifying global investment and technology competition, a Space IQ report cited by CNBC showed. The report said 2025 investment exceeded $45 billion, nearly doubling from 2024. LEO is emerging as core infrastructure for navigation, communications, defence and connectivity. Companies including SpaceX, Amazon and Nvidia are expanding plans, while Europe and China also move ahead. Experts warn regulation is lagging.

Blue Origin joins race to build space data center network
Blue Origin, founded by Jeff Bezos, is pushing to build a space data center network made up of more than 50,000 satellites, TechCrunch reported on Thursday. The company has asked the U.S. Federal Communications Commission for approval, aiming to reduce energy burdens from ground data centers and process computing directly in space. Blue Origin plans a separate satellite network, Terrawave, to support data-satellite communications.
