AI data centre thermal management council launched to support next-generation cooling technology cooperation
The Korea Institute of Science and Technology held an inauguration ceremony and symposium for the 2026 AI Data Centre Thermal Management Council in Seoul on Wednesday. About 300 people from more than 45 industry, university and research institutions attended, including Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix and LG Electronics. The council aims to standardise thermal management technologies for AI data centres and set roadmaps, test and reliability criteria, and joint demonstration projects.

TTA discusses AI-based broadcast technology standardisation strategy
The Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) said it held a joint workshop in Seoul on July 22 to review development directions for broadcast technology in the AI era and discuss international standardisation strategies for next-generation services. About 70 participants from government, broadcasters, research institutes and companies attended. Presentations covered generative AI in production and services, a “Beyond TV” vision, and related platform and broadcast technologies. Attendees also shared Brazil’s TV 3.0 trends using ATSC 3.0.

Low-earth-orbit satellite communications: How to use them in the space internet era
Low-earth-orbit satellite communications aim to extend network coverage to areas beyond terrestrial infrastructure, including mountains, islands, open seas and the sky. Unlike geostationary satellites at about 36,000 km altitude, low-earth-orbit satellites operate at about 200 to 2,000 km, reducing latency but requiring large constellations. South Korea has approved cross-border supply deals involving Starlink and Eutelsat OneWeb. The government targets an independent network by 2035 and plans a 300 billion won R&D programme by 2030.
