Deputy minister Ryu Je-myung meets Botswana vice president to discuss AI, ICT cooperation

Ryu Je-myung (류제명), South Korea\'s second vice minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT, met Botswana Vice President Ndaba Nkosinathi Gaolathe on Wednesday to discuss cooperation in AI and ICT. The meeting was held at Botswana\'s request as it pursues a shift to a digital and knowledge-based economy. Anthropic releases 2030 U.S. jobs and GDP scenarios as growth brings employment shock

Anthropic published a webpage outlining three economic scenarios for how AI could affect U.S. employment and GDP by 2030. It said AI may boost productivity and expand the economy while hurting knowledge-worker jobs and wages. The scenarios range from a mild impact similar to the internet to a radical case in which AI outperforms humans in most knowledge work. Anthropic projected higher GDP but warned of job transitions, higher unemployment risks and a declining labor share in the radical case.

Talks gather pace on law to institutionalise basic financial rights

Discussions are gaining pace in South Korea on enacting a Basic Financial Security Act to guarantee financial access for low-income and low-credit groups. A policy forum in parliament reviewed legal and policy tasks, outcomes of existing programmes, overseas systems and potential economic and social effects. Proposals call for expanding policy-based finance beyond funding to link counselling, debt adjustment, recovery, self-reliance and asset building through a one-stop support system.
