SMEs ministry sets AI factory goal to drive manufacturing AX for small firms
South Korea\'s Ministry of SMEs and Startups has set building AI factories as a new policy goal to drive manufacturing innovation among small and medium-sized firms. Minister Han Sung-sook said smart factories should be upgraded into AI-autonomous plants, citing results such as lower defect rates and higher productivity. The ministry plans to standardise and expand collection of manufacturing data by 2030 and shift to package support combining grants, loans and guarantees.

MOTIE says M.AX Alliance expands to 1,300 participants; humanoid pilots to rise to 30 sites
South Korea\'s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy has expanded the M.AX Alliance, a consultative body for manufacturing AI transformation, to 11 subcommittees with more than 1,300 companies and institutions within six months of its launch. The ministry plans to increase humanoid robot pilot projects from 10 sites last year to at least 30 this year, prioritising hazardous tasks such as shipyard welding and logistics transfers.

South Korea steps up full-stack support for physical AI, Bae says
South Korea is stepping up broad industrial support aimed at becoming a global leader in physical AI. Deputy Prime Minister and Science Minister Bae Kyung-hoon said physical AI must be prepared from a full-stack perspective and the government will provide maximum support from national R&D to on-site deployment. Officials said the government will secure core common technologies within 3 years. Industry executives urged collaboration ecosystems, sandbox systems and greater investment in low-power on-device chips.
