OpenAI activates war room after Codex credits drain faster than expected, resets limits for all users
OpenAI has launched an emergency review after users complained that usage limits for its AI coding agent Codex were being depleted faster than expected. The company formed an internal “war room” to analyse logs and investigate the cause, including whether anti-abuse systems mistakenly rate-limited legitimate users. OpenAI also reset Codex usage limits for all users while the investigation continues. Some users said weekly allowances vanished within a day.

OpenAI makes limited release of three GPT-5.6 models; top model focused on cybersecurity
OpenAI has made a limited release of three new GPT-5.6 models, Sol, Terra and Luna, SecurityWeek reported. The top model, Sol, is specialised for cybersecurity. The rollout is being offered first only to trusted partners after consultation with the U.S. government, as a temporary step while a framework is developed to assess national security risks from advanced AI systems. Broader availability is expected within weeks.

OpenAI will launch a hardware device related to its AI coding tool Codex on July 15. In a video posted on social media platform X on June 29 local time, the company showed a square device with multiple buttons and said users’ favourite Codex shortcuts were being upgraded. The Verge reported the product is separate from an AI device OpenAI is developing with former Apple designer Jony Ive.
