OpenAI held its first OpenAI Model Masters event in South Korea to support AI service development by local startups, it said on Oct. 26.
Eleven startups took part in the event at OpenAI’s Seoul office on Oct. 23 and showcased products and features using OpenAI models.
Model Masters is a program designed to help startups apply AI technology to real products and services. OpenAI provided API credits to startups recommended by venture capital firms to support development and experiments.
Participating companies introduced AI use cases across areas including work automation, website creation, commerce, bio research and video content production. Many services using voice models were also unveiled.
Cutback, which develops the AI video editing solution Selects, won. Cutback demonstrated a technology that uses OpenAI models’ video understanding capabilities to extract 140 highlights of a specific player from 16 hours of football match footage. It also unveiled a case of producing 5 edited videos and shorts and thumbnails from 3 hours and 31 minutes of original live broadcast footage.
Cutback received high marks for using an evaluation dataset built by video editors to select models suited to cost, speed and quality for each task and applying them to the actual editing process.
Han Yu-ha (한유하), account director in charge of startups at OpenAI, said, "Model Masters is a program designed to help South Korean startups use OpenAI’s various models and APIs more effectively to implement core product functions, going beyond developing products with the coding agent Codex." She added, "We hope the development experiences and lessons shared this time will lead to product advancement and new business opportunities."
