BNK Financial to provide 1.6 trillion won in Chuseok funding for SMEs and small merchants

BNK Financial Group will provide special loans worth a total of 1.6 trillion won to regional small and medium-sized companies and small merchants ahead of the Chuseok holiday. BNK Financial said on Sunday it will supply the BNK 2026 Chuseok Special Loan through BNK Busan Bank and BNK Kyongnam Bank from Aug. 24 to Oct. 26. Each bank will support 800 billion won, split between new funding and maturity extensions. Borrowers may receive interest-rate cuts of up to 1.0 percentage point.

South Korea, three telecom carriers review illegal spam response, tighten blocking ahead of Chuseok

South Korea\'s government and telecom operators reviewed their response to illegal spam and agreed to strengthen blocking ahead of the September Chuseok holiday. The Korea Communications Commission and the Ministry of Science and ICT held the sixth plenary meeting of a public-private consultative body in Seoul on Aug. 14 to discuss progress on a comprehensive anti-spam plan and future measures. Officials urged operators to expand reporting disclosures, share spoofed numbers and improve AI-based filtering.

Coupang posts 835 billion won Q2 operating loss, swings to deficit from year ago

Coupang moved into an operating loss in the second quarter after reflecting a penalty related to a personal data leak, pushing its first-half operating loss above 1 trillion won. Coupang Inc reported revenue of 13.3 trillion won and an operating loss of 835 billion won, versus an operating profit a year earlier. It booked about $410 million in penalties in operating expenses. Active customers rose to 24.7 million, and the company guided to 8 to 9 percent constant-currency revenue growth for the third quarter.
