KAIST develops virtual testbed to verify infrastructure performance without costly AI servers
Researchers at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) developed a simulator that can verify the performance and efficiency of large AI server infrastructure before it is built. KAIST said the team’s LLM service infrastructure simulator, LLMServingSim 2.0, won the best paper award at ISPASS 2026. The platform supports GPUs and next-generation hardware such as NPUs, PIM and CXL-based memory expansion devices, and is released as open source.

Nvidia AI CPU \'Vera\' posts first benchmark results, close to AMD EPYC
Nvidia\'s next-generation AI-focused CPU, Vera, delivered performance close to AMD\'s top-end EPYC lineup in public benchmarks, and led in some areas. Tests cited by online outlet Gigazine showed strong single-socket results and near dual-socket flagship EPYC performance in some code compilation tasks. The benchmarks were based on measurements by Linux-focused outlet Phoronix. Vera uses Nvidia-designed Olympus cores, supports FP8 and PCIe 6 and is aimed at data centres.

Design houses move from outsourced chip design to AI chip architecture
Design house (DSP) companies that once focused on outsourced semiconductor design are expanding in both contract pricing and funding scale as AI chip mass production becomes harder with foundry steps alone after 2-nanometre nodes. With physical limits nearing, 2.5D and 3D stacking and chiplets are becoming key, making advanced packaging and interconnect new battlegrounds. Firms are shifting toward integrated design platforms and infrastructure architecture partnerships, alongside rising high-value project shares and larger financings.
