42 percent of teens, 16 percent of adults experience cyber violence
A survey found 42.3 percent of South Korean teenagers and 15.8 percent of adults have experienced cyber violence. Among respondents, 89.4 percent of teens and 87.6 percent of adults agreed that cyber violence abusing generative AI is serious. The survey of 16,817 people was conducted from September to early November last year. Text and instant messages were the most common channel. The commission plans to expand digital ethics education for adults and strengthen deepfake and generative AI ethics education for youths.

Legislative Research Service calls for \'free viewing\' clause in Broadcasting Act, urgent universal access overhaul
South Korea\'s National Assembly Legislative Research Service called for a redesign of the universal viewing rights system following controversy over exclusive Olympic broadcast rights. It said the Broadcasting Act should explicitly state that eligible events must be viewable \"at no additional cost,\" so people without pay-TV or OTT subscriptions can watch. It also raised the need to expand the scope of designated events and rework the channel-based system to include online platforms and services.

Cable TV industry warns of broadcast fund payment deferral without policy within 3 months
South Korea\'s cable TV industry called on the government to draw up support measures, saying the current crisis is a structural one caused by a policy vacuum. The Korea Cable TV Broadcasting Association urged the creation of a joint policy research group and demanded a rough policy plan within three months. It said it would seek a full deferral of the broadcast development fund if there is no action, and could reconsider mandatory regional channel operations.
