[DigitalToday reporter Jin-ho Lee] The Broadcasting and Media Communications Commission is launching a series of video content containing telecommunications information essential to people's daily lives.

The commission said on Thursday it has started the 'Telecom Tips for the Public' series with SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus, and in cooperation with the Korea Telecommunications Operators Association (KTOA). The series delivers telecommunications information through AI short-form videos.

The activity is a promotional campaign in which the government and the telecom industry join forces to deliver telecommunications service policy and practical, daily-life information. The campaign aims to convey verified information in an easy and engaging way as fake news increases.

The videos will be released simultaneously through the official YouTube channels of the commission and the three mobile carriers, among other platforms. Each video will be produced as a short clip of under 1 minute to make the key points easy to understand.

The first content released is a video explaining how to use a spam and voice phishing blocking app to prevent malicious calls on parents' mobile phones in advance. In June, the series will introduce how to connect safely to public WiFi outdoors during the World Cup season to protect personal information.

The commission and the telecom industry plan to post short, engaging informational videos using generative AI technology sequentially at intervals of 2 to 3 weeks. Future topics include updated measures when buying mobile phones after the repeal of the Mobile Device Distribution Act, and emergency charging methods when batteries run low during the vacation season.

Sang-kwon Ban (반상권), the commission's spokesperson, said, "The key to this activity is for the government and the private sector to work together to deliver useful information to the public easily and accurately." He added, "We will continue to find beneficial telecommunications lifestyle information and promote it."
